About IB-Middle Year Program (MYP)
B-MYP program offered by selective schools. Any student aged between 11 yrs to 16 yrs can take up MYP program through IB-MYP schools.
MYP program offers variety of subjects to learners as follows:
- Languages
- Social studies
- Sciences
- Mathematics
- Arts
- Design
A framework of each subject mentioning expected learning outcomes is to be followed by teachers while designing the curriculum of subject. Teachers can also include additional content to the syllabus matching to the guidelines to give in-depth understanding of the subject to the learner.
Along with regular academics, IB-MYP program also encourages students to test their learning outcomes via project works. These projects help students for in-depth learning experience, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making through real world situations.
Assessment at MYP is categorized as follows
Internal / School-based assessment
Learners are internally assessed by the school teachers based on the internal exams and learning progress of the student. Teachers must follow the assessment criteria set by IB for each subject while grading the student.
External assessment
Along with internal assessment, students must submit their personal project work for external assessment. The project work depends on cumulative syllabus learned over years in MYP. Students can also opt for optional external assessment (eAssessment)
About IB-Diploma Program (IBDP)
Most IB schools offer IB- Diploma program which can be taken at 10 + 2 level. While any student who has completed his 10th std through any board can pursue IB-DP, generally students from Cambridge IGCSE and IB-MYP program opt for IB-DP program.
IB-Diploma program is spread over two years and students are supposed to appear for final exams conducted as external assessment at the end of second year.
Subjects in IBDP
IBDP curriculum offers students variety of subjects to choose from 6 different streams. Students are supposed to select the subjects from 6 different streams.
Key pointers for subject selection at IBDP:
Students are supposed to take up 6 subjects in total at IBDP
Based on future career choices students are supposed to take min. 3 and max. 4 subjects of higher complexity called as Higher level (HL) For e.g. Students willing to pursue engineering in future may take up Math and Physics as HL • The remaining subjects which hold less priority for desires career choice will be studied as lower complexity called as Standard level (SL)
All students must take up DP Core subjects compulsorily.
Students have to take up Extended essay for a subject that directly links with their career choice.
